Nexus Mods, the renowned platform for modding thousands of PC games, has officially transitioned to new ownership, marking a significant moment in its storied history. Former owner Robin “Dark0ne” Scott, who founded the site in 2001, shared the news through a heartfelt post on Monday, reflecting on the journey and the challenges that led to this decision.
Scott expressed his relief and excitement, stating, “After months of meetings, face-to-face talks, and a whole lot of soul searching, I am thrilled to say that I truly believe I have found the exact right people for the task.” He acknowledged the immense responsibility that came with managing the platform, noting that it had consumed much of his adult life. The weight of this responsibility, he admitted, had begun to take a toll on his well-being, prompting him to seek new leadership.
While the identity of the new owners remains undisclosed, Scott did highlight two key figures who will be stepping into leadership roles: “Foledinho (Victor)” and “Rapsak (Marinus).” He praised their extensive backgrounds in gaming and technology, emphasizing their genuine commitment to the site and its community. “They’ve got deep roots in gaming, tech, and most importantly, they give a damn; about the site, the community, and the future we’re trying to build here,” he remarked.
Scott reassured users that this transition is not a typical corporate exit or a clandestine deal. Instead, he framed it as a necessary step for his own mental health and a chance to relinquish the burden of sole responsibility. “This is me doing something I probably should’ve done years ago: taking care of myself. Reclaiming some headspace. And finally letting go of the idea that I have to do everything and be responsible for everything myself,” he explained.
Despite stepping back from ownership, Scott will remain an active presence within the Nexus Mods community. He plans to engage with users on the Mod Author Discord and participate in forum discussions, ensuring that his passion for the platform endures. Furthermore, he will collaborate with the new leadership to help steer the overall direction of the site, blending his vision with fresh perspectives.
