GIF export in Snipping Tool begins rolling out to Windows Insiders

Hello Windows Insiders, we are excited to announce the rollout of a new update for the Snipping Tool, now available to users in the Canary and Dev Channels on Windows 11.

Snipping Tool (version 11.2505.21.0)

GIF Export

This latest update introduces a highly anticipated feature: GIF export for screen recordings. This enhancement is designed to elevate your productivity by transforming quick captures into easily shareable moments.

To utilize this new feature, simply access the Snipping Tool’s screen recorder by pressing Win + Shift + R or by launching the app and switching to screen recording mode. After recording your screen, a preview will appear within the Snipping Tool app. Here, you can click on the “Export GIF” button located in the top toolbar.

Upon clicking the export option, you will be prompted to choose your desired GIF quality, ranging from low to high. You can then save the GIF directly to your files or opt to copy it straight to your clipboard for immediate use!

It’s important to note that GIF export is limited to videos of 30 seconds or less. Should your recording exceed this duration, the Snipping Tool will automatically offer to export only the first 30 seconds of your video.

FEEDBACK: We encourage you to share your thoughts by filing feedback in the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Snipping Tool. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we look forward to hearing your suggestions regarding these updates!
