Barclays Customers Encounter Payment Glitches
A recent flurry of activity on X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter, revealed that Barclays customers were facing difficulties with transactions. Many voiced their concerns about not receiving payments as expected, sparking a wave of customer service inquiries.
In the midst of the night, customers took to X to express their worries. One customer’s message read, “I’m supposed to receive my payments at midnight and haven’t still received it yet is this an issue with @Barclays for anyone else? #barclaysbank.” Another customer’s concern was evident in their post, “My pay normally goes in at midnight and my direct debits come out today. My money isn’t showing as cleared. Is this going to be sorted out?” And frustrations were clear when a user noted, “yeah my app won’t let me transfer anything.”
Barclays was quick to respond to these concerns on X, assuring customers that they were aware of the issues and were diligently working towards a resolution. “I’m really sorry you’re experiencing issues on the app at the moment. We’re aware of issues affecting some users logging into the app and online banking,” the bank replied to a customer. In another response, the sentiment was empathetic: “Thanks for reaching out to us. I hope that you’re doing okay despite the issues that are ongoing.”
The bank’s customer service team conveyed their apologies for the inconvenience, stating, “I’m truly sorry about our services currently being down. The team are working quickly to get this resolved.”
Fortunately, the technical hiccup was short-lived. Barclays announced an update at 03:25 GMT, confirming that the payment issues had been resolved. Customers were informed that they could once again “make and receive payments once more,” as reported by the BBC.
The bank had previously acknowledged the difficulties on X, assuring a customer, “I’m sorry to hear that you were affected by the payment issues we’ve been having. Our IT team have been working really hard to get this all sorted and it looks to be resolved now.” This statement came after Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, indicated spikes in reports of Barclays service disruptions starting around 9:15 pm on Tuesday.
Barclays is not alone in experiencing technical setbacks. In recent weeks, major companies including supermarket chains Sainsbury’s and Tesco, as well as fast-food outlets McDonald’s and Greggs, have all navigated through their own system issues.
