Google Testing New Feature to Automatically Launch Apps After Installation
When you install an app from the Google Play Store, you are typically given the option to either open or uninstall the app. However, Google is now reportedly testing a new feature that will automatically launch the app as soon as it is installed on the device.
According to a recent report by Android Authority, which conducted an APK teardown of Google Play Store v41.4.19, the new feature known as ‘App Auto Open’ will send users a notification in the form of a banner across the top of the screen when activated.
While the notification will ring or vibrate the device based on the device settings, users will have the option to silence it. The flag that enables the feature also indicates that the notification will only last up to five seconds.
The APK teardown further reveals that the functionality will be turned on by default but can be easily toggled on or off. Despite enabling the flag, the feature is currently not operational.
There is no official information on when or if App Auto Open will be rolled out to all users. However, if implemented, this feature could be particularly useful for individuals who tend to forget to launch new apps immediately after installation.
In recent months, Google has introduced several new features to the Play Store, such as the ability to ‘Ask someone else to pay for this item’, download two apps simultaneously, and update apps using a limited amount of mobile data.
