Kirsten Dunst has expressed a keen interest in joining the cast of the anticipated sequel to “A Minecraft Movie,” highlighting her desire for projects that could enhance her financial portfolio. In a recent interview with Town & Country, the 43-year-old actress humorously remarked, “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money.”
Dunst’s enthusiasm comes on the heels of the original film’s impressive performance at the box office, where it emerged as the highest-grossing film domestically in 2025, as reported by Forbes. The New Jersey native shared that her two sons, Ennis, aged 7, and James, aged 4, who she shares with husband Jesse Plemons, thoroughly enjoyed the first installment, further motivating her interest in the sequel.
Creative Endeavors and Industry Challenges
In a conversation with Deadline in April 2025, De Luca, a key figure in the film’s production, reflected on the lengthy journey of bringing the project to fruition. He noted that the film had been in development for 12 years, facing numerous challenges along the way. “The project was here for 12 years and had trouble getting made,” De Luca stated. “I think Pam and I did our jobs well, recognizing that it should be fast-tracked.”
De Luca also took a moment to commend Jesse Ehrman, the President of Production and Development at Warner Bros. Pictures, for his unwavering commitment to the project. “He never didn’t believe in it, and he kept the faith,” De Luca remarked, acknowledging the difficulties of maintaining momentum through various changes in studio leadership.
Jason Momoa, who starred alongside Jack Black in the original film, has also expressed interest in returning for the sequel. In a lighthearted comment to Extra in March, he suggested a playful naming convention for future installments: “We’ll call it ‘Another Minecraft Movie’ and then we’ll call it ‘And Another Minecraft Movie.’”
