September 24, 2025
Qualcomm’s CEO, Cristiano Amon, recently shared his enthusiasm regarding Google’s anticipated merger of Android and ChromeOS. During a keynote at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, Amon revealed that he has had the opportunity to preview the new software, expressing his eagerness to experience it firsthand.
On stage alongside Rick Osterloh, Google’s head of platforms and devices, Amon highlighted the collaborative efforts between Qualcomm and Google, which aim to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop computing. Osterloh noted the historical divide between the systems developed for PCs and smartphones, stating, “We are building together a common technical foundation for our products on PCs and desktop computing systems.”
Osterloh further elaborated on Google’s strategy, indicating that the integration will include the Gemini AI and the complete Android stack, along with a robust ecosystem of applications and developers. “I think this is another way in which Android is gonna be able to serve everyone in every computing category,” he remarked.
Amon responded with palpable excitement, stating, “I’ve seen it, it is incredible. It delivers on the vision of convergence of mobile and PC. I can’t wait to have one.” His comments underscore the growing anticipation surrounding this significant technological advancement.
The last update from Google regarding this initiative came in July when Sameer Samat, head of Android, confirmed the company’s commitment to merging ChromeOS and Android into a unified platform. This follows previous efforts to leverage components of the Android framework to enhance ChromeOS.
