PowerToys may soon get a new module for fixing Windows 11’s lackluster context menus

The PowerToys New+ Utility: A Customizable Solution for Windows Users

The beauty of PowerToys, one of our favorite Windows apps, lies in its ability to continuously grow and evolve with the contributions of enthusiasts. Recently, PowerToys introduced some advanced AI features, along with a new utility called “PowerToys New+”.

Dubbed as “PowerToys New+”, this innovative tool allows users to create customized templates for generating files and folders. By adding a “New+” option to the context menu, users can easily access their personalized templates, such as “Folder for documents”, “New job application”, “Windows batch project for file processing”, “Daily to do list”, and more. Each template comes with a unique icon for easy identification.

According to the developer, this tool is designed for Windows power-users, developers, and even regular users who frequently create files or folders with similar content, such as VS Code projects, job applications, scripts, and more.

The “New+” utility aims to address the limitations of Windows 11’s context menu and the underwhelming “New” submenu. With PowerToys New+, users can customize the list of available items, create multiple variants for the same object type, and template various folders with ease.

The developer envisions the New+ module to replace the stock “New” submenu, support over 20 templates, offer a template creation wizard, sync templates across devices, and even establish a marketplace for user-generated variants.

While there is no specific timeline for the release of the New+ module for testing, users can monitor its development progress on PowerToys’s GitHub repository. Additionally, a detailed document outlining the project is available for further insights.
