Latest Windows Insider Builds

A subtle yet significant enhancement is on the horizon for Windows 11 users, particularly those enrolled in the Windows Insider program. The latest updates introduce an option to resize the taskbar, a feature that has been long awaited by many.

The taskbar has often been a topic of debate among users since its redesign in Windows 11. While Microsoft aimed to create a fresh experience, it left behind some beloved features from Windows 10, such as the ability to reposition the taskbar. However, Microsoft is now taking steps to rectify these concerns, allowing users to not only move the taskbar but also to adjust its size.

Previously, Windows Insiders could shift the taskbar’s position, but resizing options were limited. The introduction of the “show smaller taskbar buttons” feature only adjusted the button sizes without affecting the overall height of the taskbar. With the rollout of Windows 11 Experimental Preview Build 26300.8758, users can now toggle the taskbar to a “small” setting, effectively reducing its height and enabling smaller icons for a more streamlined look.

Taskbar

  • Taskbar customization just got easier. As we continue to enhance the Taskbar experience, a dedicated Taskbar Size setting has been introduced, simplifying the process of personalizing your ideal taskbar.
  • Refinements have been made to the transitions between taskbar sizes, ensuring a smoother user experience.

File Explorer

  • Improvements have been made to the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane, which has been reorganized for easier access to file properties.
  • An issue with the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer has been resolved, ensuring it functions correctly even in administrative mode.
  • A fix has been implemented for the confirmation dialog that previously displayed an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original when permanently deleting files.

Sounds

  • System sounds have been enhanced for users operating Windows in dark mode, providing a more cohesive experience.

While Microsoft has released several builds recently, many of these updates have been minor. Notably, the Xbox mode has been rebranded to XBOX mode. Looking ahead, the Windows K2 initiative aims to tackle both major and minor issues within Windows 11, focusing on performance, design, and reliability enhancements.

These incremental updates, such as taskbar resizing, contribute to a more polished and personalized Windows 11 experience, reflecting Microsoft’s commitment to user satisfaction.
