In a significant stride towards environmental stewardship, a nonprofit organization based in Rochester is harnessing the power of technology to combat litter in the city. The newly launched mobile application, developed by Walking for Rochester, aims to streamline the process of reporting and tracking litter, making it more accessible for residents to contribute to a cleaner community.
Empowering Citizens to Take Action
The Walking for Rochester app allows users to report litter directly from their smartphones, transforming everyday citizens into active participants in the city’s cleanup efforts. This innovative tool serves as a centralized platform for identifying litter patterns throughout Rochester, enabling users to not only report trash but also document their own cleanup efforts.
Matt Apple, the Founder and CEO of Walking for Rochester, expressed his commitment to fostering a litter-free environment. He stated, “There’s no organization that I’m aware of besides Walking For Rochester that is working towards a litter-free community. Why? Why aren’t we addressing these environmental issues? Why aren’t we addressing the litter pride issue in the city that we live in? So, that’s why we are taking care of it.”
Since its inception in 2020, the nonprofit has made impressive strides, collecting over 17,000 pounds of litter across the city. This new app is poised to enhance their efforts, encouraging more residents to engage in litter reporting and cleanup initiatives.
The Walking for Rochester app is available for free download on both Apple and Android devices, making it easy for anyone to join the movement towards a cleaner Rochester.
