Google Photos has long provided users with the ability to share albums via links, and last year, it introduced a QR code-based sharing method to streamline the process. However, the current functionality has its limitations, as users are advised to take screenshots of the QR codes for sharing, rather than downloading them directly. Fortunately, an upcoming update may address this issue.
In version 7.93.0 of Google Photos, an early glimpse reveals an enhanced album-sharing interface that includes options for both copying and downloading the QR code directly. This improvement is poised to eliminate the need for screenshots, making it easier for users to share albums with friends and family.
Once the update is live, users will notice pill-shaped buttons labeled “Copy” and “Download” positioned just below the QR code. Selecting the Copy option will allow users to paste the code into their preferred messaging applications, while the Download button will save a copy of the QR code directly to their device. This shift suggests that Google is adapting the QR code system for broader sharing, beyond just in-person exchanges.
Enhanced Collections Tab on the Horizon
In addition to the QR code updates, Google Photos is also preparing to unveil an updated Collections tab. This new feature will allow users to pin items at the top of the page, enhancing organization and accessibility. Furthermore, a reordering functionality has already begun rolling out, enabling users to dictate the arrangement of their folders within the Collections tab.
The anticipated bottom sheet will introduce users to these new features, emphasizing that Collections now have a fresh look and improved accessibility. The sheet will include options to view Collections or start customizing them, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to user-friendly enhancements.
While the timeline for the rollout of the updated QR code sharing experience remains uncertain, the revamped Collections tab appears to be on the verge of launch.
