By the time Mike Tomlin concluded his remarkable tenure as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, he had etched his name in the annals of NFL history. Over a span of 19 years, he guided the team to an impressive record devoid of losing seasons, racked up 13 playoff appearances, clinched eight division titles, and celebrated a victory at Super Bowl XLIII. Yet, since 2014, Tomlin has embarked on a different kind of journey—one that transcends the football field.
A New Creative Venture
In a captivating YouTube video released on Wednesday, Tomlin unveiled a stunning achievement that has been 12 years in the making: a sprawling metropolis crafted within the world of Minecraft. This digital city, a testament to his creativity and dedication, showcases his meticulous attention to detail and artistic vision.
While the Steelers enjoyed a commendable postseason win rate of 62.5% from Tomlin’s inaugural season in 2007 through 2013, the subsequent years saw a stark contrast. Between the inception of his Minecraft project in 2014 and his departure from coaching in 2025, the team’s playoff win rate plummeted to a mere 25%. During this period, the Steelers secured only three playoff victories, enduring a challenging stretch of nine consecutive years without a playoff win.
Interestingly, this phase also appeared to be a challenging time for Tomlin’s son, Mayce, who humorously recounted the experience of coming home to find his PlayStation mysteriously absent. In a heartfelt tweet, he shared, “Bro I used to come home sometimes and my PlayStation would just be gone. And I wasn’t in trouble.”
Bro I used to come home sometimes and my PlayStation would just be gone. And I wasn’t in trouble😭😭😭
While it remains uncertain whether Tomlin’s Minecraft endeavors had any bearing on the Steelers’ playoff performance, one thing is clear: the creative outlet has yielded a remarkable digital landscape, complete with an abundance of aquariums that would delight any aquatic enthusiast. As fans and followers eagerly await more content, Tomlin and his son Dino have hinted at additional episodes showcasing the intricacies of this virtual city. The next installment is yet to be announced, but it will undoubtedly be available on Tomlin’s YouTube channel, inviting viewers into a world where creativity knows no bounds.
