Actor Jason Momoa has provided an exciting update regarding the much-anticipated sequel to A Minecraft Movie. According to a report from Deadline, production for the follow-up film is set to commence shortly. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Momoa, who portrayed the character Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison in the original film, shared that filming is expected to begin by the end of April.

“Very soon. Dude. Bro, end of April. They’re in it,” Momoa expressed with enthusiasm. He also praised the script for the sequel, stating that it surpasses the original in quality. “The script is even better. It’s so good, I was laughing out loud. I haven’t laughed out loud in a very long time at a script. I was perplexed on the first script; this one I’m laughing out loud,” he remarked, highlighting his genuine excitement for the project.

In October, Deadline reported that director Jared Hess will return to lead A Minecraft Movie 2, with a screenplay co-written by Hess and Chris Galletta. The sequel is scheduled for release on July 23, 2027, promising to build on the success of its predecessor.

Hess previously described the idea of a sequel as “so much fun,” particularly following the original film’s remarkable box office success, which marked it as Warner Bros’ third-largest opening of all time. “We had so much fun making this movie, and it’s such an expansive world in the game,” Hess noted, mentioning that many elements from the game remain to be explored. “I would have a blast doing the sequel, and it seems like there’s already talk about it happening,” he added, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the project.
