After making Stardew Valley on a “hand-me-down” Costco computer, Eric Barone says his one big splurge was an actually good PC

Stardew Valley Creator’s Humble Beginnings

Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, the mastermind behind the massively successful farming sim Stardew Valley, started his journey on a cheap prebuilt PC from Costco that was passed down to him by his father. Despite the game’s immense popularity, Barone remained humble and dedicated to his craft.

During a recent appearance on the My Perfect Console podcast, Barone was asked about any “extravagances” he may have indulged in following Stardew Valley’s success. He reiterated his previous stance, stating that he had not splurged on anything extravagant and still spent most of his days working on his computer.

Barone revealed an interesting tidbit during the podcast, mentioning that one of the biggest games of all time was actually developed on a subpar PC from Costco before he upgraded to a custom-built rig.

As fans eagerly await more news on Barone’s upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier, they can explore other farming sims to tide them over until then. With Stardew Valley update 1.6 now released, the future looks bright for Barone and his loyal fanbase.

In the meantime, here are the best farming sims you can play today.
