Google Releases Android Auto 14.1 with Support for Select Android Games
Google has been on a roll with its Android Auto updates, and the latest version, Android Auto 14.1, is now rolling out to beta users. This update brings promised support for select Android games that can be played on your car’s display.
Earlier this month, Google announced that Android Auto would support certain Android games, similar to cars with “Google Built-in” or Android Automotive. With the release of Android Auto 14.1, Google has officially started rolling out support for games.
Upon installing the latest update through the Android Auto beta program, we discovered that installed Android games were visible on our vehicle’s display. Games like Angry Birds 2 and Beach Buggy Racing were available to play, but only while the vehicle was parked. As soon as the vehicle was shifted out of park, the game closed immediately and was grayed out in the app drawer and app switcher.
We tested Angry Birds 2 and Beach Buggy Racing with a Pixel 9 Pro Fold connected wirelessly to a 2025 Subaru Forester. Both games opened without any issues, although Google has not optimized these titles. Angry Birds 2 displayed an “internet required” screen, likely because we hadn’t opened the game on the device before. Beach Buggy Racing still showed “tilt” controls as an option, but it worked fairly well in our test, running smoothly.
This update also introduces a new feature to Android Auto where apps are displayed in fullscreen. A swipe gesture from the top of the screen reveals an “Exit” button for easy navigation.
Supported games on Android Auto currently include Farm Heroes Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Angry Birds 2, and Beach Buggy Racing. Google is expected to expand this list over time, but it remains unclear how the company plans to roll out this functionality to users. For now, Android Auto 14.1 is only available in the beta track, with a stable release expected in the coming weeks.
To join the beta program, you can sign up via the Play Store, although availability may be limited. Stay tuned for more updates on Android Auto as Google continues to enhance the user experience.
