Bungie delays Marathon

Developer Bungie has announced a delay for its highly anticipated title, Marathon. In a recent update shared on their website, the studio confirmed that the extraction shooter will no longer meet its original launch date of September 23rd. While a new release date has yet to be established, Bungie has indicated that an updated launch window will be communicated in the autumn.

Refining the Experience

This decision comes on the heels of a mixed reception from the recent alpha playtest. Bungie is committed to enhancing Marathon’s survival gameplay and enriching the overall game world, alongside improving the social experience for players. The studio emphasized the importance of player feedback, stating, “Through every comment and real-time conversation on social media and Discord, your voice has been strong and clear. We’ve taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion.”

In their announcement, Bungie explained that the delay was reached after extensive discussions within the development team. They acknowledged the alpha test as a pivotal moment for calibrating the game’s focus, aiming to create a uniquely compelling experience characterized by survival under pressure, intricate mystery and lore, raid-like endgame challenges, and Bungie’s signature first-person shooter combat.

“We’re using this time to empower the team to create the intense, high-stakes experience that a title like Marathon is built around. This means deepening the relationship between the developers and the game’s most important voices: our players,” the studio added, reinforcing their commitment to delivering a product that resonates with their audience.
