Crimson Desert has undergone a remarkable transformation since its initial release in March, evolving into a significantly refined experience in just a few weeks. During my extensive 75-hour review playthrough, I witnessed Pearl Abyss diligently working to enhance the game, addressing many of the concerns I had noted.
Improvements and Enhancements
Notably, the developers have streamlined fast travel points, making them more accessible and plentiful. The introduction of private storage alleviates the burden of inventory management, allowing players to store unique armor and weaponry without cluttering their bags. Additionally, the frustrating issue of inadvertently breaking into locked doors with a stash of keys has been resolved. While I still wish for a more cohesive design philosophy from Pearl Abyss, the game has certainly become less cumbersome.
One persistent concern for me was the flying mechanic, which features a striking black hooded cape that Kliff can use to glide through the skies. Initially, this should have been an exhilarating way to explore the expansive map of Pywel. However, the experience fell short, as it consumed an excessive amount of stamina, forcing me into a frustrating cycle of managing both Kliff’s health and my stamina. The mechanics felt clunky, detracting from what should have been a fluid and enchanting experience.
Fortunately, after the latest patch, I noticed a significant improvement. Kliff now ascends effortlessly, soaring across distances with a responsiveness that was absent before. The flight mechanic has transformed into a genuine tool for exploration, invigorating my desire to traverse the world on foot. The transition between points of interest has become smooth and enjoyable, even if I occasionally need to manage my stamina with potions.
This ongoing refinement reflects Pearl Abyss’ commitment to enhancing Crimson Desert’s gameplay experience. The reduction of loading cutscenes has also encouraged exploration, making the world feel more inviting. It’s evident that the developers possess the capability to create a snappy and engaging game, and I welcome their decision to prioritize player experience over rigid design principles. With these improvements, I am excited to explore the skies of Crimson Desert, which promises to be a far more enjoyable adventure moving forward.
