Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is peak FromSoftware, with everything players complained about in the base game dialed up to 11 in the funniest way possible

Swamp ass

In an age where game developers often prioritize community building and direct communication with players, FromSoftware stands out for its unique approach. Rather than engaging in open dialogue, FromSoft takes a more distant stance and, in a way, disciplines its players. While other studios like Larian and Arrowhead thrive on player feedback and interaction, FromSoft proves that a more aloof approach can be just as effective.

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoft has taken trolling to new heights, constantly subverting player expectations and keeping us on our toes. The game had me laughing out loud with its clever twists and turns. To avoid spoilers, let’s just say that there are some surprises in store for players in the first two open world zones.

Taste my blade

One of the standout moments that showcases FromSoft’s mischievous side occurs in the Belurat Tower Settlement legacy dungeon. After unlocking a gate at the bottom of a well, players are met with a challenging encounter that is both frustrating and rewarding. The game’s president, Miyazaki, seems to enjoy incorporating these tough areas, much to the chagrin of players.

Despite the initial annoyance, these unexpected challenges add a layer of humor to the game. From facing off against multiple Ulcerated Tree Spirits to encountering the Rivers of Blood katana, players are constantly kept on their toes. The developers’ playful approach to game design is evident in every aspect of Elden Ring, making it a truly unique and engaging experience.
