Event Details
Hurricane Helene made its presence felt on the Florida coast on September 26, but its most severe consequences were observed in the southern Appalachians. The US National Weather Service reported widespread flooding, significant property damage, and strong winds that uprooted trees and downed power lines from the Gulf Coast to the North Carolina mountains. With the death toll currently at 215 and many individuals still unaccounted for, the urgency for aid is palpable.
Submissions for speedruns will be accepted until midnight Eastern Time on October 6. The marathon will kick off at 6 PM ET on October 11 and continue until midnight on October 13. Viewers can catch the full showcase on the Games Done Quick channel on Twitch, where all donations collected during the event will be directed to Direct Relief, a humanitarian organization dedicated to improving health and living conditions for those impacted by emergencies and poverty, irrespective of political or religious affiliations.
Since its inception in 2010, Games Done Quick has raised over million for various charitable causes through its speedrunning marathons. The flagship events, Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick, along with the more recent Frame Fatales events supporting women and non-binary speedrunners, have garnered significant attention. Notably, the 2017 Harvey Relief Done Quick marathon raised more than 9,000 to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey, showcasing the community’s commitment to aiding those in need.
