Google proposes app store reforms in settlement with ‘Fortnite’ maker Epic Games

Google and Epic Games Settle in U.S. Court

Alphabet’s Google announced on Tuesday that it has reached a comprehensive settlement with Epic Games, the maker of “Fortnite,” in a U.S. court. The agreement includes reforms for Android and the app store, with the goal of reducing fees, increasing competition, and providing more options for developers and consumers.

In a joint filing in federal court in San Francisco, the two companies presented a proposal to U.S. District Judge James Donato to resolve Epic’s antitrust lawsuit from 2020. The lawsuit accused Google of unlawfully monopolizing how users access apps and make in-app purchases on Android devices.
