With a name like Putrified Ducts, it’s understandable that some players might hesitate to venture into this region of Silksong. However, this seemingly unremarkable area, tucked away in the top right corner of the map, offers significant rewards for those brave enough to explore it. While technically an optional locale, Putrified Ducts is home to some of the best tools available in Silksong, particularly beneficial before tackling the challenges of Bilewater’s treacherous swamps. Here’s a guide on how to navigate your way to Putrified Ducts.
How to get to Putrified Ducts
There are two primary routes to reach Putrified Ducts: one through Bilewater and the other from Memorium.
Although the Bilewater route is the earliest option, it is advisable to wait until you reach Memorium in Act 2. This approach is preferable for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Putrified Ducts houses the Wreath of Purity, which neutralizes the maggots in Bilewater. Secondly, by this point, you will have acquired the Silksong double jump and Clawline, making your journey through the ducts considerably more manageable.
Bilewater
To access Putrified Ducts via Bilewater, prepare for a lengthy trek starting from either Sinner’s Road or the Bellway, assuming you have it unlocked. The rightmost bench in Bilewater is a crucial waypoint, accessible by breaking through a hidden wall along the way. Be cautious, however, as the ‘bench’ located to the left is a deceptive trap.
Additionally, you will need to defeat the area’s boss, Groal (not to be confused with the Foo Fighters member), which can be quite challenging, especially without the Wreath of Purity. Once Groal is vanquished, the path to Putrified Ducts will be unlocked. It’s worth noting that this route is not recommended unless you thrive on difficulty or possess exceptional skills in Silksong.
Memorium
The second, and more advisable, route to Putrified Ducts requires the Clawline and the Faydown Cloak, which you can obtain sequentially during Act 2. These items will enable you to access hidden paths, marked with stars, leading you smoothly into Putrified Ducts.
From the bench in Memorium, proceed to the rightmost room. Here, utilize your double jump to reach a hidden passage in the ceiling, then emerge into the open air. Traverse across the rooftop until you hit a dead end. Carefully double jump up to the breakable wall, clear the obstruction, and continue onward into Putrified Ducts. Upon entering the main vertical chamber, you will spot the Bellway signpost.
In addition to the Wreath of Purity, you will also discover the Apostate Key, essential for accessing The Slab, as well as a haven for Silksong fleas known as the Pale Lake. After gathering enough fleas, you can relocate the caravan to what will eventually become Fleatopia. During Act 3 of Silksong, you’ll have the opportunity to collect the final Pale Oil needed to upgrade Hornet’s needle to its ultimate form from Fleatopia.
