In a significant leadership transition, Jagex, the renowned creator of RuneScape, has appointed Jon Bellamy as its new chief executive officer. Bellamy steps into the role previously held by Phil Mansell, who has guided the company since 2017.
Background and Experience
Jon Bellamy is no stranger to Jagex, having been part of the company from 2015 to 2018, where he contributed to the strategy and mergers & acquisitions team. His career trajectory has since taken him through notable positions at London Venture Partners and Huuuge Games, where he served as chief commercial officer for nearly five years. Additionally, Bellamy has lent his expertise as an advisor to various firms, including Pixion, Kohort, Stealth, and Maximillian, as well as one of Jagex’s owners, CVC. Since October 2024, he has also been a board member at Jagex, further solidifying his connection to the company.
Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Bellamy remarked, “It’s a great honour to assume the leadership of Jagex and to help steward a game franchise that means so much to so many millions, myself included. I am also excited to get to work with the outstanding team, whom I know well from my time on the Board, to ensure our games continue to be the best in the world.” He emphasized his intention to collaborate closely with the team to review Jagex’s ambitions and to communicate his broader vision to the RuneScape community in the near future.
Phil Mansell’s Legacy
Phil Mansell, reflecting on his tenure, stated, “After an incredible 14 years leading RuneScape and eight years as Jagex’s CEO, I’m stepping back and handing over the baton to Jon Bellamy.
