Microsoft ends support for Windows 10

In a significant shift for its user base, Microsoft has officially ceased support for its Windows 10 operating system as of October 14th. This decision marks the end of technical assistance and updates, both in terms of functionality and security, for those still utilizing this platform.

Guidance for Windows 10 Users

For users still operating on Windows 10, Microsoft is advocating a transition to the more advanced Windows 11. The company emphasizes that this newer version offers a “more modern, secure, and highly efficient computing experience.” In their communication, Microsoft stated, “At this point, technical assistance, feature updates, and security updates will no longer be provided.”

For those whose devices do not meet the necessary specifications to upgrade to Windows 11, Microsoft has outlined a couple of alternatives:

  • Enroll in the Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
  • Consider replacing the device with one that supports Windows 11.

As of the latest reports, over 32 percent of Steam users are still engaged with hardware running Windows 10, indicating a substantial segment of the market that may need to navigate this transition in the coming months. The shift to Windows 11 not only promises enhanced security but also a suite of features designed to improve overall user experience.
