Beyond the deck
Personally, trading card games have always eluded me as to why they’re so popular. It just seems like a lot of effort to grab booster packs, continuously open them and then put them in binders before building a deck. But by that same metric, I can see the appeal in Pokémon TCG Pocket for boiling the collection experience down to its bare essentials, making it about the experience rather than the physical tedium.
Of course, I’m sure there are also more than a few people frustrated by the idea of their precious collection being digital only. But for those who aren’t, this is the perfect way to get into this decades-old franchise where it all started.
