Razer’s new app offers yet another way to play PC games on your phone

Razer PC Remote Play: A New Frontier in Mobile Gaming

Over 15 years ago, the prospect of gaming on an Android phone was a distant dream for many enthusiasts. Fast forward to today, and that dream has taken shape, albeit with certain limitations. Razer has stepped into this evolving landscape with its latest offering: Razer PC Remote Play.

Currently in beta within the Razer Cortex application, this tool presents itself as a functional remote access solution rather than a polished gaming platform. While it does boast some gaming-centric features, such as compatibility with Razer’s Kishi series of mobile controllers, the overall experience feels somewhat utilitarian.

The app allows users to stream their entire PC display or create a virtual window for specific games, optimizing bandwidth usage in the process. It automatically adjusts to the resolution and refresh rate of your phone, which is a thoughtful touch for mobile gamers.

However, users must remain on the same local network as the host PC to establish a connection. Although the app recognized my home PC, I faced challenges when attempting to connect over a mobile network. Despite the proximity of my host PC, the connection failed to materialize, leaving me unable to stream my games.

For many gamers, alternative solutions already exist. Platforms like Steam’s streaming service and Nvidia’s GeForce Now offer reliable methods for accessing games remotely. Razer’s software, while arguably the most stable among dedicated driver programs for gaming accessories, still falls short of expectations in terms of user experience.

If you’re not specifically seeking integration with Razer’s mobile controllers, particularly the Kishi Ultra’s advanced haptic feedback, it may be wise to consider other options before investing time in setting up Razer PC Remote Play on both your PC and Android device.
