Roblox, the popular gaming platform, is set to implement significant changes to its child safety features, as reported by Bloomberg. These enhancements are scheduled to take effect in November and aim to bolster the protection of younger users.
New Safety Measures
Among the key updates, children aged 13 and under will now require parental permission to access the game’s chat functionalities. Additionally, players aged nine and below will need consent to engage with games that contain “moderate violence or crude humour.” This proactive approach reflects Roblox’s commitment to creating a safer online environment for its youngest audience.
In a further effort to enhance oversight, Roblox will introduce parental accounts, allowing guardians to monitor their children’s activities on the platform. A representative from Roblox emphasized that these changes are part of the company’s ongoing dedication to user safety, particularly for its most vulnerable users.
These modifications come in response to a critical report from Hindenburg Research, which alleged that Roblox had not taken sufficient measures to protect against child predators on its platform. In light of these claims, Roblox has firmly denied any shortcomings, asserting that they maintain a secure environment for their users. A company spokesperson stated, “We firmly believe that Roblox is a safe and secure platform and in the financial metrics we report.”
