The long-awaited “Enhanced” upgrade of Grand Theft Auto V, which has captivated players on PS5 and Xbox Series X for the past three years, has finally made its debut on PC. However, the launch has not unfolded without its share of challenges. The reception on Steam has been less than favorable, with the game currently holding a “mixed” rating, reflecting just 53% positive reviews. Players have voiced their frustrations over several missing features and a notably inconsistent account migration process.
New Features and System Requirements
As the sole version of GTA V available on Steam, the Enhanced edition is offered free of charge to those who previously owned the game. This upgrade introduces a host of new features, including ray tracing and additional content for GTA Online, while also raising the system requirements to align with the expectations of 2025’s gaming landscape. For those whose hardware does not meet the new standards, the option to retain the older version of the game remains available, provided they purchased it in the past.
Despite the enhancements, players have expressed disappointment over certain limitations. Notably, the game is now capped at 120 FPS, eliminating the possibility of achieving higher frame rates. Additionally, the absence of text chat support has left many feeling disconnected from the community.
Character Migration Issues
Perhaps the most significant source of frustration stems from the character migration process. Many players have encountered difficulties transferring their characters to the Enhanced version, leading to speculation within the community. It appears that these issues may be linked to characters that have received hacked money over the years, a challenge that even legitimate players find hard to avoid given the prevalence of cheaters in GTA V’s PC environment.
While some character transfer problems seem to be genuine errors that can be navigated, it is likely that a number of players experiencing these issues have faced legitimate bans in the past. Unfortunately, this has resulted in innocent accounts being ensnared in the complications of the migration process.
In an unexpected twist, a Corsair executive hinted at the arrival of GTA VI on PC in early 2026, only to retract the statement shortly thereafter, leaving the community buzzing with speculation.
