Carmageddon developer Stainless Games has announced the promotion of Ben Gunstone to the role of chief executive officer, succeeding Patrick Buckland, who has led the company since its inception in 1994. Gunstone, who joined Stainless in 2022 as a game director, has quickly ascended through the ranks, becoming operations director before this latest advancement.
Leadership Transition
Gunstone brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent over a year at Dovetail Games prior to his tenure at Stainless. In his acceptance of the CEO position, he expressed both delight and humility, acknowledging the remarkable legacy Buckland has built over the past three decades. “I’m very proud to be taking over as CEO with the added benefit of Patrick’s mentorship and guidance as Executive Chairman,” Gunstone stated. He emphasized the company’s commitment to creating exceptional games, a principle he intends to uphold as he leads the organization forward.
Buckland, who will transition into the role of Executive Chairman, shared his thoughts on this pivotal change. “As I’m 62 later this year (I know, I don’t look a day over 70), I’ve decided it’s time to start stepping back a little more from the everyday stress that being CEO of a software company involves,” he remarked with a touch of humor. This new position allows him to continue nurturing the company’s legacy while dedicating more time to his passion for game development. “As the majority shareholder, Stainless is still my baby, but now it is in the day-to-day hands of somebody whom I trust unreservedly. Onwards and upwards,” he concluded, signaling a promising future for Stainless Games under Gunstone’s leadership.
