Twas the day before Christmas, and Steam is down

Recent Updates

Update: As of 2:30 PM ET, Steam has experienced another outage following a brief period of functionality. The situation remains uncertain, and we will provide updates as soon as the platform is fully operational again.

Original Story: On the eve of Christmas, a peculiar silence envelops the gaming community as Steam faces an unexpected downtime. As the clock approached 2 PM ET on a Wednesday, it became evident that this was no ordinary maintenance issue. Reports indicate that Steam is currently inaccessible, with the unofficial Steam Status website highlighting websocket errors and confirming that the entire Steam store, community, and web API are offline.

Interestingly, the surge in page views on the SteamStat page serves as a reliable indicator that something significant has gone awry. Downdetector corroborates these findings, showing a spike in reported issues starting shortly after 1 PM ET.

In the midst of this disruption, a user known as P0nchik95 on the Steam subreddit has put forth a theory regarding the outage. While the accuracy of this speculation remains questionable, it does offer some food for thought. We have reached out to Valve for clarification and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Rest assured, updates will be provided as soon as Steam resumes normal operations.
