In the ever-evolving landscape of messaging applications, Beeper has made significant strides in enhancing user experience and security. The all-in-one messaging platform is rolling out new security features aimed at bolstering chat encryption, ensuring that user conversations remain private and secure.
Enhanced Security and Premium Features
Previously, Beeper relied on an online interface known as Beeper Cloud to relay messages from various apps. However, the latest update transforms this approach by enabling direct connections to individual messaging applications. This shift allows for end-to-end encryption (E2EE) across all platforms that support it, streamlining the process and enhancing security.
In its earlier iteration, Beeper provided encryption for select messaging services like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, but messages underwent a two-step encryption and decryption process. The recent overhaul eliminates this intermediary step, allowing for more efficient and secure message delivery directly to the respective app servers.
Alongside these security enhancements, Beeper is introducing a premium subscription model. The Beeper Plus tier, priced at .99 per month, offers an array of new features designed to enhance user functionality:
- Support for up to three accounts from the same app
- Message scheduling and reminders
- Incognito mode, allowing users to view messages without sending read receipts or appearing online
- Voice note transcriptions
- Custom app icons
- The ability to add up to ten accounts, an increase from five in the free version
For those seeking even more flexibility, the “Beeper Plus Plus” tier is available for .99 per month, which removes all limits on the number of accounts.
In a nod to existing users, Beeper is also extending benefits to those who were on the free tier, allowing them to add up to 12 accounts at no additional cost. Furthermore, early adopters who previously paid for early access to Beeper will now enjoy lifetime free access to Beeper Plus.
Despite these advancements, the absence of iMessage support remains a notable point of contention. After a series of unsuccessful attempts to integrate with Apple’s messaging service, Beeper has seemingly put this issue to rest, having open-sourced its iMessage bridge in December 2023 and subsequently being acquired by Automattic.
