Samsung Ditches Its Messaging App in Favor of Google Messages in US

Samsung Devices in the US to Ditch Samsung Messages for Google Messages

In a surprising move, Samsung has announced that new devices in the US will no longer come with Samsung Messages preinstalled. The company has decided to make Google Messages the default messaging app on Galaxy smartphones moving forward.

This decision comes as Samsung has been gradually phasing out Samsung Messages since the launch of the S22 in 2022. The shift is attributed to the better support for RCS messages in Google Messages, making it a more appealing option for users.

Despite the transition, Samsung had continued to preinstall Samsung Messages on devices to cater to Samsung enthusiasts who preferred using the company’s messaging app. However, with the upcoming release of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 on July 24, Samsung has officially announced the discontinuation of Samsung Messages preloading.

In a statement on the Samsung Member app, the company mentioned, “The Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded, starting with Flip 6, Fold 6, and newer models. Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and enhanced experience to express your emotions, making communication safe and fun.”
