In a significant move for mobile technology enthusiasts, Google has unveiled plans to release Android 15 in the upcoming weeks. The company has also made the source code available through the Android Open Source Project, inviting developers and contributors to build upon and enhance the Android operating system.
Android 15 will initially roll out to supported Pixel devices, including the latest Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 models. Following this, select devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, and others will receive the update in the months ahead. While Android 15 does not mark a drastic departure from its predecessor, Android 14, it introduces a suite of new features designed to enhance user experience.
- Partial screen recording capabilities
- Satellite connectivity for messaging without cellular service
- Predictive back gestures for smoother navigation
- Enhanced in-app camera controls
- Low-light boost for improved photography
- Sensitive notifications for two-factor authentication codes
Will my phone support Android 15?
As is customary, Google prioritizes its Pixel devices for the latest Android updates. The full list of supported devices includes:
- Pixel 8
- Pixel 9
Additionally, versions of Android 15 will be made available for select devices from other brands, including Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
Before you download Android 15…
As with any major software release, it is advisable to back up your device before proceeding with the update. This precaution ensures that you can revert to Android 14 if necessary. If you have automatic backups enabled, your data should already be secure. However, for manual backups, navigate to Settings > System > Backup and select Back up now. You also have the option to back up your device to a computer.
How to download Android 15 to your Pixel device
To download Android 15 on your compatible Pixel device, follow these steps:
