Android 16 Beta 4 Arrives with AOD Theming, App Drawer Shortcut, and More
Google’s Android 16 Beta 4 is now rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer devices, marking a significant step in the evolution of the operating system. This latest beta, which is anticipated to be the final update before the official release in May, introduces several noteworthy enhancements aimed at improving user experience and security.
New Features and Improvements
Among the most visually appealing updates is the enhancement to the Always on Display (AOD) feature. Users will notice that certain clock styles now adapt to dynamic theming, particularly the bubbly AOD clock style, which showcases subtle hues around the edges of the numbers, adding a touch of personalization to the display.
In the Wallpaper and Style section, the Themed icons toggle has transitioned out of beta, now appearing without the “Beta” label, signaling its readiness for broader use. Additionally, the Pixel launcher has introduced a new Apps list shortcut in the long-press menu, allowing for quicker access to the app drawer.
However, not all changes have been welcomed. Some users have reported the unexpected removal of the Battery Health feature from the Battery Settings page, although it remains available on certain devices, such as the Pixel 6.
Further enhancements to the recent menu include two new options: Screenshot and Select. The Screenshot option is straightforward, while the Select feature allows users to highlight content within an app, streamlining multitasking capabilities.
The Gesture Navigation page has also seen an update, now featuring a “Try a demo” pill that guides users through an intuitive tutorial reminiscent of the initial device setup. Additionally, the Quick Settings Media Player artwork has been slightly darkened, providing a more cohesive look on the lock screen.
As Android 16 continues to evolve through its beta phases, many features remain under wraps, waiting for a potential reveal in upcoming QPR Betas. The anticipation surrounding these updates reflects the community’s eagerness for innovation and improvement in the Android ecosystem.
