Apple TV Plus is reportedly about to debut on Android

In a significant move to broaden its reach, Apple has commenced the rollout of its Apple TV Plus app for Android phones and tablets. This development allows users to enjoy popular shows like Severance directly from their Android devices. For those eager to explore this new offering, the app can be found on the Google Play Store, although availability may vary as the rollout progresses.

The Android version of the app is designed with user-friendly features, including offline downloads and saved watchlists, enhancing the viewing experience for subscribers. Users will also have the option to subscribe to Apple TV Plus and MLS Season Pass through Google Play billing. However, it’s worth noting that the app does not support the rental or purchase of movies and TV shows at this time.

Furthermore, the app has been optimized for foldable devices, a detail highlighted by former Verge colleague Dan Seifert on social media. This adaptation reflects Apple’s commitment to ensuring a seamless experience across various device formats.

Previously, an Apple TV Plus app was available for Android TV, but this latest expansion marks a pivotal step in making the service accessible on a wider array of Android devices. While Apple has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this launch, it is clear that the company is keen on enhancing its presence beyond its own ecosystem.

In addition to the new Apple TV Plus app, several other Apple applications are already available on Android, including Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, and a dedicated Beats app for managing settings on Beats devices. Currently, an Apple TV Plus subscription is priced at .99 per month, providing access to a diverse library of content.

Update, February 12th: The app is now rolling out.
