AV-Test Evaluation of Mobile Security Products for Android
AV-Test recently conducted a thorough evaluation of 14 mobile security products for Android to determine their effectiveness. The security apps were tested in their default settings using the latest versions available. The focus of the research was primarily on usability and malware detection on Android devices. In addition, the performance and false positive rates of the security products were also taken into consideration.
The evaluation was based on a scale of 1 to 6, with a score of 6 indicating outstanding performance, 3 being satisfactory, and 0 considered insufficient. Among the top performers were Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, ESET, F-secure, Google, Kaspersky, McAfee, and Norton, all of which received a perfect score of 6 for protection, performance, and usability.
Avira and TotalAV also received high marks, with 6 points for protection and performance, but slightly lower scores of 5 for usability. Protectstar scored 5.5 for protection, 6 for performance, and 3 for usability. ShieldApps excelled in performance and usability with a score of 6, but received 5.5 for protection. SOPHOS received 6 points for protection and performance, with a usability score of 5.
