Pixel users can now enjoy a heightened sense of privacy with the introduction of a new feature in Android 15: Private Space. It functions similarly to having an additional user account, where apps such as Google Photos, Files, Chrome, and the newly introduced Pixel Screenshots are duplicated for private use. This unique setup ensures that any data generated within this secluded area is stored in a dedicated file path, completely isolating it from the standard app drawer.
For example, screenshots captured while using apps within the Private Space will be saved exclusively in the locked versions of Pixel Screenshots and Google Photos. Similarly, any downloaded images or files will be directed to the private iteration of Google Files, reinforcing the notion that this space is indeed private.
Each app utilized in this hidden drawer is marked with a small icon in the status bar, indicating its locked status. Notably, these apps will not appear in the recent apps or multitasking windows, and they remain silent, refraining from sending notifications while the Private Space is secured.
During the setup process, users have the flexibility to determine how frequently Android’s Private Space locks itself, with options ranging from automatic locking after 5 minutes to syncing with the phone’s own lock settings. Additionally, users can opt to use a different Google Account for this private section or create a new one altogether. A new passcode and fingerprint scan can also be established to enhance security.
How to enable Private Space
To activate Android’s Private Space on your Pixel device, ensure that it is running Android 15. Users can check for updates through the settings app; if the latest version is not yet installed, they will need to wait for an update.
