How to use the Google Photos app’s new Remix tool to transform your pictures

Google has recently unveiled additional insights into its innovative Remix feature for the Photos app, designed to elevate the way users engage with their images. This feature allows individuals to transform their photos into various artistic styles, including anime, 3D animation, sketches, and comic book illustrations.

Exploring the Remix Feature

Initially announced in July, the Remix tool is part of a broader update that also includes a photo-to-video generator. While the feature is still in the rollout phase, Google has provided a detailed guide on how to utilize this creative tool effectively.

To embark on your artistic journey with Remix, users can follow these straightforward steps:

  1. Open Google Photos and tap on the Create new button (the plus icon located in the top right corner).
  2. Select the Remix option.
  3. Tap Try now to begin experimenting.
  4. Choose your preferred art style.
  5. Select a photo by tapping Choose photo.
  6. If you wish to modify your selection, tap Change photo.
  7. Once satisfied, tap Generate to see your transformed image.
  8. To save or share your creation:
    • Tap Save to store the edited photo.
    • Tap Share to distribute your artwork.

Google has indicated that this feature is currently classified as “experimental,” which means that the results may vary and may not always align perfectly with the original photo. For optimal outcomes, users are encouraged to select well-lit and focused images. Additionally, if the initial results do not meet expectations, a Regenerate button is available to produce alternative renditions within the same artistic style.

At launch, the Remix feature offers four distinct art styles, with no current plans disclosed regarding the introduction of additional styles in the future. As users begin to explore this new creative avenue, Google invites feedback on the experience, fostering a sense of community engagement around this innovative tool.
