Friday’s unexpected update for the Pixel line has introduced an array of features that surpass initial expectations. While we previously highlighted the new App Lock feature from Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3, it’s time to delve into the vibrant new colors and customization options available for your Pixel phone with this latest software iteration.
Enhanced Color Customization
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 significantly revamps the color selection process within the “Wallpaper & style” settings. Users can now utilize a color slider to precisely select their preferred hue for the system theme, along with four distinct styles for each chosen color.
To explore this updated color feature, simply long-press on your home screen and select “Wallpaper & style.” From there, tapping the “Colors” option will transport you to this newly enhanced customization area.
Upon selecting “Your wallpaper colors,” the system will save and display your chosen color on the left side of the screen. This color will serve as the centerpiece of your Material You color setup. For those seeking further refinement, tapping the color palette icon above allows for meticulous adjustments using the color slider.
Additionally, tapping the color swatch on the Colors page leads you to a new styles area featuring four options: Neutral, Soft, Bright, and Bold. Each style dramatically alters the overall aesthetic depending on the selected color, offering a fresh and personalized look for your device.
This update is just one facet of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 rollout that began on Friday for supported Pixel phones. Interested users can enroll in the Android Beta Program to experience these features firsthand, although the stable version won’t reach non-beta testers until December 2026.
