What you need to know
In an intriguing development for Pixel users, Google is reportedly crafting a new settings page dubbed “Hearing Wellness.” This feature aims to enhance user experience by integrating Android’s Sound Exposure and Hearing Health options, allowing devices to automatically adjust volume levels when they exceed safe thresholds.
According to reports, the Hearing Wellness page will provide users with the option to enable or disable this automatic volume reduction, addressing previous concerns raised by users regarding the lack of control over this feature. The initiative appears to be a response to user feedback, as many had expressed dissatisfaction with the automatic adjustments implemented for regulatory compliance.
Recently, Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 was rolled out for enrolled Pixel devices, following the launch of the Pixel 10. This update continues to evolve the Android experience, and while the exact timeline for the Hearing Wellness feature remains uncertain, its introduction signals a move towards greater user autonomy.
Spotted by Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority, the new interface showcases two toggles: one for Sound Exposure notifications and another for Hearing Health. This development hints at Google’s commitment to prioritizing user choice and wellness in its product offerings.
Android 16 continues
As the week unfolded, Google managed to keep the momentum going with the release of Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1, shortly after the Made by Google event. This update introduces several enhancements, including an expanded dark theme and auto-themed icons, alongside new developer APIs.
The dark mode expansion aims to encourage apps that traditionally operate in light mode to adopt a darker aesthetic, catering to users seeking relief from eye strain during prolonged screen time. Notably, Fitbit has begun rolling out dark mode as well, suggesting a broader trend towards user-friendly design adjustments across various applications.
As the QPR2 phase progresses, anticipation builds around what additional features and improvements may be on the horizon for Pixel devices. The initial iteration of this phase showcased significant design changes through the Material 3 Expressive redesign, setting a high bar for future updates.
