Celo Launches Layer-2 Testnet “Dango” on Ethereum
On July 8, Celo announced the launch of its layer-2 testnet, “Dango,” which is built on top of Ethereum. This testnet is a fork of the Alfajores testnet and includes all historical data such as smart contracts, accounts, and balances.
The Celo team shared that “Dango” will allow for the bridging of WETH and ERC-20 tokens between Ethereum and Celo. It also introduces the concept of CELO token duality, which means users can interact with CELO either natively or through the ERC20 interface. Additionally, “Dango” will maintain key layer-1 features like Fee Abstraction and SocialConnect.
Once infrastructure providers have updated for the layer-2 integration, the Alfajores testnet will be directly migrated for dApp developers to test. The team reassured that this migration is not expected to have any impact on most user-facing dApps.
