Receiving things on Files by Google app should be easier with a new FAB button

In a noteworthy update, the Files by Google app has introduced a new floating action button (FAB) that enhances its existing Quick Share functionality. This addition, aptly named “Receive,” can be found in the latest stable version of the app, identified as 1.4955.677425801.0.

What you need to know

  • A new button labeled “Receive” has been added next to the traditional “Scan” button.
  • Upon clicking “Receive,” users will gain access to Google’s Quick Share feature.

The “Receive” button is strategically positioned at the bottom right of the screen, where users previously found the “Scan” button. In this redesign, the Scan button has been slightly repositioned and resized, making way for the new FAB, which is accompanied by the Quick Share icon.

When users tap the new “Receive” button, a prompt appears, stating “Receive from others nearby.” This feature allows users to make their Android devices available for file reception via Quick Share. A subsequent click will open the Quick Share sheet directly within the Files by Google app.

For those who own a Pixel device, the rollout of this feature is expected to commence shortly. Even if the new button has not yet appeared for some users on the specified app version, it is anticipated to be available in the coming weeks.

Notably, the introduction of the Receive FAB simplifies the file reception process, contrasting with the previous multi-step method required for Quick Share. This enhancement follows a recent redesign of the Files by Google app, which included a carousel view for recent files, reminiscent of the Memories section in Google Photos.
