The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE’s last major Android upgrade is reaching users

What you need to know

Samsung has commenced the rollout of its latest software, One UI 8, for the Galaxy S21 FE in Thailand and Vietnam. This update marks a significant moment for the device, as it is anticipated to be the last major Android OS upgrade for the Galaxy S21 FE, coinciding with the conclusion of its four-year update guarantee.

Despite this being the final major upgrade, the Galaxy S21 FE will continue to receive monthly security patches for over a year, ensuring users remain protected and up-to-date.

The introduction of One UI 8 follows the summer launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. This new operating system, built on Android 16, enhances the previous One UI 7 framework by incorporating additional features and a stronger emphasis on Galaxy AI capabilities. The rollout, first reported by SamMobile, began on Thursday, October 23, and while there is no specific timeline for its availability in other regions, this initial release hints at a broader global rollout on the horizon.

The update itself is relatively modest in size, at just over 2GB, and is identified by the version number G990EXXUIHYJ2. This swift transition to One UI 8 comes shortly after the device received its previous upgrade to One UI 7 in May 2025, highlighting Samsung’s commitment to keeping its devices current.

As the tech landscape evolves, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 FE is expected to set a new standard, offering an impressive seven-year update promise for its “Fan Edition” series, further solidifying the brand’s dedication to longevity and user satisfaction.
