WhatsApp Introduces In-App Message Translation Feature
WhatsApp is taking steps to enhance user experience by introducing translation tools within the chat application. Following the recent addition of audio message transcript capability, WhatsApp is now testing a new in-app text translation feature, currently available in the latest testing build.
According to WABetaInfo, the company is releasing the Android beta 2.24.15.9 version, which provides insights into the upcoming WhatsApp in-app message translation feature. Let’s delve into the details of the current app testing version.
Reports suggest that WhatsApp is developing an in-house translation tool for both audio and text messages. While an early version hinted at Google Live Translation integration, the latest update has clarified this aspect.
The upcoming feature may be named ‘Translate’ and is expected to be located in the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the conversation. Users can simply tap on it to activate a toggle that will enable the translation of all new messages in the chat, allowing them to read messages in their preferred language without the need for additional tools or applications.
Although the feature currently supports languages such as English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, more language options are likely to be added in future updates.
Furthermore, WhatsApp’s in-app translation tool prioritizes user security and privacy by ensuring that data remains within the application without being transferred to external servers.
The update is currently available for beta testers through the Google Play Beta Program and will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
