Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2.1 is out now with a slew of bug fixes

Latest Developments in Android 14 Beta Program

In the ever-evolving landscape of mobile operating systems, Google has taken another step forward by releasing Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2.1, a month after the debut of its predecessor. This new iteration comes packed with a plethora of bug fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience.

The update, bearing the identifier AP21.240305.005, not only squashes bugs but also integrates the March 2024 security patch. A wide array of Google’s Pixel devices, from the Pixel 5a through to the latest models, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, are eligible to receive this update.

Among the improvements, users can anticipate resolutions to several pressing issues:

  • A remedy for launcher crashes that occurred when accessing recent applications.
  • A fix for the Pixel Tablet’s charging hiccup while docked.
  • Enhancements to the swipe-up gesture to ensure a smooth return to the home screen.
  • Refinements to the lock screen notification layout, eliminating unnecessary padding.
  • Resolutions to the “Application not responding” errors that plagued both system and third-party apps.
  • Improvements to the reliability of the notification shade’s downward swipe gesture.
  • For Pixel Fold users, a fix for the inner screen display issue when unfolding the device.
  • Backup reliability for user wallpaper settings.
  • Restoration of the “Quick Tap to start actions” gesture functionality.
  • Various other enhancements targeting system stability, performance, connectivity, interactivity, and camera operations.

While the update addresses a spectrum of issues, including launcher crashes, charging problems, app freezes, and navigation mishaps, it’s worth noting that the severity is not as pronounced as with the initial Beta 2 release. Nevertheless, the QPR3 Beta 2.1 still has its quirks, and users may prefer to wait before updating their primary devices.

Google has yet to provide clarity on the OTA sideloading complication from the previous month, which led to some devices being temporarily bricked. The company continues to recommend that beta testers patiently await the OTA updates, negating the need for manual sideloading.

Participants of the Android 14 Beta program can expect to receive the QPR3 Beta 2.1 update automatically via OTA, ensuring a seamless transition to the latest version.
