Goodbye low-quality images — new Meta Messenger update lets you send higher-quality photos

Enhanced Photo Sharing on Meta Messenger

In a notable development, Meta has broken its silence and introduced a substantial update to the Messenger app, mainly enhancing the sharing and photo features. Previously, users experienced issues with the quality of photos shared within the app, with images often appearing pixelated as if they were captured on antiquated flip phones.

The highlight of the update is the introduction of high-definition (HD) photo capabilities within Messenger conversations. Meta promises that this improvement will provide “clearer, crisper photos,” enriching the user experience. To benefit from this advancement, users can now select an image in the chat composer and toggle on the HD option before dispatching their visual messages. This new functionality supports sending multiple images in HD, ensuring that every shared photo meets the highest quality standards.

Moreover, the nostalgia of shared albums on Facebook is being revived in the Messenger environment. Users can effortlessly create a shared album by selecting multiple photos and opting to tap Create Album. Another method includes pressing and holding a photo, then selecting the Create Album option as it appears. Alternatively, photos can be added to an existing album with just a few taps.

Shared albums within a chat open a collaborative space where participants can view, contribute, or remove content, and even download media. While the ability to revisit these albums through the group chat’s Media section is anticipated, it remains on the horizon and is not part of the current release.

QR Code Connections and Increased File Sharing Capabilities

Connecting with new contacts has also been streamlined with QR code technology. Users can head to Settings, display their unique QR code, and share it with others for a quick scan, establishing a connection without the need for manually inputting phone numbers or names. Additionally, a shareable link can be generated with a simple tapping Share command.

Another significant part of the update is the expansion of file-sharing capabilities, with users now able to send files as large as 100 MB. Meta ensures compatibility with all key file formats, including Word documents, PDFs, and Excel spreadsheets. To share a file, users just need to tap the + button in the chat and select the desired file or files to send. This feature is particularly noteworthy as it surpasses the current 25 MB file size limit imposed by email services such as Gmail, offering a convenient alternative for sharing large files directly through Messenger.
