Enhanced Standby Battery Life with Android 15
In a recent announcement, Google has unveiled a significant improvement in battery management for Android 15, as reported by Phone Arena. The tech giant has fine-tuned the operating system to extend the standby time of devices, a move that promises to conserve more power and keep phones running longer between charges.
The breakthrough was shared during the Google I/O event, where it was revealed that the entry into Doze mode—a power-saving state—has been accelerated by a remarkable 50%. This enhancement means that devices will now slip into this low-power state much quicker, thereby reducing battery drain when the phone is not in use.
Doze mode plays a crucial role in conserving energy by limiting app activity and cutting off background access to system resources for apps that have not been used recently. The result of this optimization is a notable increase in battery life, with some models experiencing up to three additional hours of standby power.
Dave Burke, the Vice President of Engineering for Android, conveyed to Android Authority the impact of this update, “For Android 15, we’ve sped up the time to doze by 50%. So we get into doze 50% faster, and the result is that on some devices, we tested up to 3 hours longer standby power. And that’s sort of a general improvement in 15 that applies to all devices.”
Furthermore, the benefits of this improved battery performance are set to extend beyond smartphones, with the upcoming Wear OS 6 also expected to reap the advantages of the more efficient power management.
Alongside the battery life enhancements, Google also teased a suite of new features poised to debut with Android 15. Among these are Private Space, which will likely offer users heightened privacy options, and App pairs, which may introduce new multitasking capabilities.
