Google Unveils Android 15 Beta 2
In a recent announcement at Google I/O, the tech giant revealed the release of the second beta for Android 15. This new beta version comes just over a month after the first beta was made available. Pixel users eager to experience the latest Android features can enroll in the Android Beta for Pixel program. The new beta can be installed over the air, or users can update their software if they are already running the first beta.
Android 15 is poised to enhance the Android operating system with a suite of new services and improvements. These enhancements are designed to bolster productivity, user privacy, and security, as well as provide better support for developers and content creators. Additionally, the update aims to improve communication tools and, as always, focuses on performance and quality.
Among the notable features introduced in the first beta of Android 15 is the ability for app archiving and unarchiving, which allows users to free up space on their devices more efficiently. Another significant addition is the support for end-to-end encryption for contact keys, which enhances the verification process for other people’s contact information.
The developer community has had access to the upcoming major release of Android since its initial developer preview in February. While the Android 15 beta is still a work in progress and primarily targeted at developers and early adopters, it is more polished and stable than the earlier developer previews. However, caution is advised as beta software may contain bugs and may not be fully stable for daily use.
Device Compatibility for Android 15 Beta
Google typically restricts early access to developer previews and beta releases to its own devices. To participate in the Android 15 beta program, you must have a compatible Pixel phone or tablet. For those without supported devices, the Android Beta for Pixel page, sign in with your Google account, and check for device compatibility. If your phone is eligible, it will be listed under Your eligible devices.
Note:
If you have previously enrolled in the Android 14 beta or Android 15 developer preview, you will automatically receive the Android 15 beta update over the air. For new enrollees, select Opt in, agree to the terms, and click Confirm and enroll. Instructions will be provided on how to download and install Android 15 on your device.
Once enrolled, navigate to Settings > System > System update on your device to download the OTA update. It may take up to 24 hours to receive the update. Enrolled devices will continue to receive Android 15 beta updates as they are released.
The general release of Android 15 is anticipated to occur in the fall.
Opting Out of the Android 15 Beta
Should you decide to leave the Android 15 beta program, return to the Android Beta for Pixel page, select Opt out, and confirm by clicking Leave beta. This action will stop beta updates and prompt an OTA update to the latest stable version of Android 14. Remember, installing the Android 14 update will erase all data on your device, so ensure you have a backup in place.
