Temporary Service Interruption at Kakao Corp.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, users of Kakao Corp.’s flagship mobile messaging service, KakaoTalk, encountered a brief hiccup. For approximately 54 minutes starting at 8:30 a.m., the desktop version of the app was inaccessible to its multitude of users. Kakao Corp. attributed the pause in connectivity to an internal system error, assuring that measures were taken immediately to restore the service, which resumed normal operation by 9:24 a.m.
Notably, this is not the first instance of service interruption for KakaoTalk, as the platform had faced similar, albeit brief, outages on the previous day and in the past week. The disruption echoes memories of a more significant outage in 2022, which was caused by a fire at one of the company’s data centers.
In response to the recent service disruptions, the Ministry of Science and ICT took a proactive stance by conducting an emergency on-site inspection at Kakao. This task force included network experts with a mission to safeguard against future service interruptions, ensuring that KakaoTalk remains a reliable communication tool for its users.
