Meta Confirms Photo Sharing On Messenger App Now Supports 4K Quality: What It Means – News18

Enhancements to Messenger’s Photo Sharing Capabilities

In a notable update, Meta has refined the High-Definition (HD) photo sharing feature on its Messenger platform, a functionality that was initially introduced in 2017. The company acknowledges that users can now share photos in true HD quality, which equates to 4K resolution.

Previously, the 4K photo sharing capability on Messenger was influenced by network quality and involved a level of compression to facilitate faster sharing. However, this has been revised. The current version of Messenger’s HD photo sharing delivers uncompromised quality without compression, requiring only a simple tap on the HD button—mirroring the high-resolution photo sending option available on WhatsApp.

If users do not activate the HD option while sharing an image, Messenger will default to 2K resolution for photo sharing. This adjustment comes after seven years since the feature’s debut and suggests a sequential strategy by Meta to prioritize WhatsApp for new features before extending them to the broader app ecosystem.

The improvements don’t just stop at photo sharing. Messenger has also increased its file sharing capacity to 100MB, quadrupling the previous 25MB limit, though it still falls short of WhatsApp’s 2GB limit. Additionally, Messenger is set to introduce an album sharing feature, which despite seeming overdue, is a new addition to the app. Users can expect to see these updates roll out over the next few weeks.
