Enhanced Photo Sharing Comes to Meta Application
In a move to enrich user experience, Meta has introduced an “HD” option within its application that enables users to send photos without compromising on image quality. The feature, available from Tuesday, is set to facilitate the seamless exchange of high-resolution images directly through the app.
For Ngoc Tram, a communications worker in Ho Chi Minh City, this update signifies the end of a cumbersome process. Previously, Tram had to rely on Zalo to send high-quality photos for content approval, a detour from her preferred communication tool, Messenger. “The new update from Meta has resolved that problem,” she expressed, highlighting the convenience the feature brings to her workflow.
Mai Thanh Phu, a provider of social media services, pointed out that although Facebook has offered the capability to send high-quality photos and videos since 2017, it was a privilege enjoyed by users in select markets only, such as the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. Phu emphasized the significant impact the HD photo capability will have on Vietnamese users, streamlining daily communications and professional exchanges without the need for alternative platforms like Zalo, Viber, or Telegram.
However, it’s important to note that the new functionality hasn’t been rolled out to all users just yet. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared that not only could users send high-quality photo albums, but they could also name each album for better organization. Additionally, Meta has improved file-sharing capabilities, now allowing the transmission of files up to 100 MB directly from users’ phones, providing a viable alternative to email for large file transfers. Despite these announcements, the specific markets that will benefit from these features remain unspecified. As of now, several Vietnamese users have reported the ability to send HD photos, but not larger video files.
With approximately 54.5 million Messenger users in Vietnam, as reported by Data Reportal in January, Messenger stands as one of the most popular messaging applications in the country. The introduction of these new features is likely to further cement its position as a go-to platform for personal and professional communication.
