Upcoming Changes to Samsung’s One UI
In the ever-evolving landscape of smartphone interfaces, Samsung users might soon experience a significant change in how they navigate their app drawers. Traditionally, Samsung’s One UI app drawer has opted for a horizontal page system. However, recent buzz suggests that a vertical scrolling option could be on the horizon for the next iteration of Samsung’s user interface.
Previously, users who preferred a vertical scroll for their app drawer could customize their layout using Good Lock’s Home Up module. This feature was a nod to the more commonly found vertical scroll on other Android phones. However, Samsung removed this customization option in recent updates, leading to speculation about the company’s future plans for app drawer navigation.
Insights into this potential shift came to light following a Samsung representative’s response to a user’s query about the possibility of reinstating the vertical scroll feature in the Home Up module. A member of the Good Lock support team hinted that instead of bringing the feature back to Good Lock, Samsung is considering integrating a “vertical list function” directly into the operating system.
The anticipation is that Samsung may introduce this vertical scrolling feature natively in the upcoming One UI 7, which will be based on Android 15. This move would align Samsung’s interface more closely with other Android devices, which predominantly use vertical scrolling for app drawer navigation.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has a history of charting its own course within the Android ecosystem. For example, the tech giant has long resisted adopting seamless updates, a standard feature on many Android devices. However, in a recent turn of events, Samsung began implementing seamless updates in March, signaling a potential shift towards embracing widely-used Android features.
As Samsung users await the beta release of One UI 7, expected in the coming months, the possibility of a vertical app drawer adds to the anticipation of what other user-requested features might be included in the update. Only time will tell how Samsung will continue to adapt its interface to meet the desires of its user base.
